If home is where the heart is, then the recroom is where the fun is!
- Grinns
The recroom is where the fun is. It is the place to recreate, or re-create. It is the
activity that brings us together, with family and close friends, when we play, and feel
wonderful.
Let's speak the truth in simple terms. As adults, we spend most of our lives either
working, sleeping or whittling away time. When we were children, active play and
creativity were considered necessary for our happy healthy personal and social
development. But as we grew up, becoming responsible productive adults became so
important that active play and creativity became either foolish or a luxury for
the privileged few.
Grinns believes playing is just as important, even more so, than
anything else we humans pay attention to. At Grinns, the recroom idea includes every object,
activity or space for fun and entertainment, at home or in any other place we spend time
with others - and that makes for a lot of possibility! Grinns believes in the magic of
possibility!
Grinns Fun is the deep down feel good fun of family and friends, even co-workers, re-creating in a
warm casual friendly and happy place. It is about the opportunities and space at
home and in our lives for fun and play.
Grinns is the great big grin you can't hold back, because your skill and luck are so
amazingly awesome at times! It's the company of good people and friends, keeping it
real, challenging, welcoming, celebrating.
Grinns is honest heart-felt conviviality. And contagious.
So then, just what is a recroom?
Or is it a gameroom?
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recreation_room) loosely defines a
recroom (aka. rec room, rumpus room or recreation room) as a place for games,
parties, everyday and casual use. Some buildings and institutions have a recroom,
that may be furnished with as little as a card table and TV or elaborately enough
to suit a king.
Although often used interchangeably, the terms recroom and gameroom (or game room)
are not the same. In everyday use, a gameroom most likely refers to an arcade styled
room of video games, pinball machines and action games. The popular gameroom tends
to be a whiz bang pop affair; high energy with lighting effects and lots of sounds.
As such, a gameroom is usually a public destination, a small business rather than
a personal home area.
Except for the most fortunate of us a home gameroom is actually just the rec room
or family room of our house. For some it may be the den or TV room while others use
the kitchen or dining room table to gather together. In the broad sense, the
game room is any place we gather to play games!
It is safe to say that every gameroom is a recroom.
But every recroom is not a gameroom. A recroom can be the place of passion for many
different recreational activities like reading, painting, playing music, making a
home theater or holding a club meeting. A recroom can be suited for everyday
activity and is often used as a place where folks casually gather to interact socially
- to enjoy good company as much as to play games or be competitive. The Grinns view
is that almost any room can become a rec room, if it's a place you want to be fun.
A recroom, if only represented by a fun novelty item on your desk, should be an expression
of your fun side. When your main fun place at home, a recroom should be the celebration
of what you love, of your good times with family and friends.
Now, don't you think that's something worth having? We sure do!
Make your daily spaces fun,
LIFE IS A RECROOM OPPORTUNITY!!
